Great Deal For The Money! June 14, 2010 Brian C. Farmer (Cairo, GA) I purchased this system at an online auction site, and have it hooked in with my Toshiba 40RV52R HDTV and an original model CECHA01 PS3, and absolutely love it. Setup of the system itself was a breeze, thanks to the microphone. There's plenty of wire provided for the speakers, connecting them to the receiver is simple, and using the included microphone to level out the volume is easy.
The sound quality is amazing as far as I'm concerned. I have the system set up in a smaller area, so there's more than enough power for my needs, and I'm convinced it would perform well in a larger room, too.
There are ton of options and sound settings--for someone like me, who tech savvy, but not sound savvy, it's a bit overwhelming, but a good look at the manual can help you arrive at a basic setup, at least. For those who know their way around home theater systems and their setup, I'm sure you can achieve exactly what you want.
EDIT: When I first reviewed this product, I mentioned a problem with the display of PS2 games playing through the backwards compatible PS3. The audio and video of PS2 games (and those only--not PS3 games, BDs, or DVDs), would cut in and out, making it impossible to play the games. I had to set the PS3 up to run audio through an optical cable and route the video directly to my HDTV via HDMI to play a PS2 game, rather than being able to just leave audio and video running via HDMI through the HT-SS2300.
I tried different HDMI cables, different settings in the PS3 and the HT-SS2300, contacted Playstation technical support, and even progressed to the highest level of Sony technical support in regards to the HT-SS2300, without getting a solution. Having to have two different setups (one for PS2 titles, one for PS3 Titles, DVDs, & BDs,) was bearable, but still a pain in the neck, and I gave the system a four-star rating as a result, with this problem being the only flaw I saw.
Tonight, I finally found someone online who has this Home Theater system and the same model of PS3 as me, and decided to send them an e-mail to see if they experienced this same problem, and to try and get a solution. I decided to pop in a PS2 disc to replicate the issue once again, so that I could give a full, accurate description of it in my message (I hadn't tried this for awhile).
Inexplicably, PS2 titles are now running absolutely perfectly via HDMI through the HT-SS2300. I have absolutely no clue what caused the correction. I don't recall having done anything with the home theater system itself in recent months, and I haven't adjusted any settings in the PS3, either. All I can figure is that either something snapped itself into place in the inner workings of this thing, or perhaps it was a PS3 issue all along that was resolved through a recent firmware update. In any event, now that this is working, I can enthusiastically give this system a five-star rating!
This system is perfect for my needs. It's easy to set up, provides clear audio and video, and is powerful when handling music or audio accompanying TV or a movie. Great bang for the buck! I definitely recommend it.
Sony Blu-Ray Theater System February 1, 2010 R. Stewart (Austin, Texas) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
The seller was prompt, quick, and packaging kept product in mint condition. I would recommend using this seller for any product - large or small.
A Sound System to Remember December 31, 2009 Joshua Anderson (Fort Bliss, TX) Being here in South Korea on deployment I needed a sound system when I first got to Korea. I searched around for a month or so and I went to check out the Korean systems at the Korean stores. I was out-of-luck until I found this one sitting on the shelf at the BX. It was awesome. I heard it and I was like damn this thing sounds great. I've had expensive systems in the past before I joined the military and this one is excellent. It hooks up to my Sony TV, XBOX 360 and I string a long Audio cable to hook up to my mac to listen to music. I can turn the TV and Audio system on with a touch of a button or I can hit the DVD button and it will go right to the XBOX 360 with the sound after I turn the XBOX on of course. The system is life like when I'm playing Modern Warfare 2 and I can hear the people sneaking up on my on multi player mode with this system. The only downfall to this system in my eyes is that you can't adjust the BASS on the Subwoofer?! Come on Sony for me paying almost 400 dollars for this system and me not being able to adjust the Bass is crazy! This system should of came with that feature. Other then that you can have 8 sources plugged into this thing at once and have HDMI which is awesome. You can control the TV with the remote if you have a Sony TV and control your DVD or Blu-Ray player with the remote too. Overall a great system for someone looking for a easy to use sound system.
Good sound for the price November 26, 2009 John D. Steere (Silver Spring, MD United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I spent a long time shopping for a home theater system. I'm glad I followed the advice of other reviewers and chose this item. I have a small room with a big TV, and this provides just the right kind of sound. Works especially well with my PS3, and it was a breeze to hook up.
Warranty is Useless November 18, 2009 Bob (Ohio) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've owned this unit for a little less than a year. I began having distortion problems with the subwoofer about a month ago. I hooked up a neighbor's subwoofer to the system and it worked fine. I contacted Sony and learned the product had to be shipped to Texas at my expense for warranty repairs. I boxed up the subwoofer, attached a note explaining the problem including that another subwoofer worked fine, and shipped it to Texas. A week later I get it back with a note reading, "Sony Needs the Complete Unit" taped to the subwoofer. No one even bothered to read the note I had sent. It's apparent Sony wants to discourage warranty repairs by not making repair facilities available nationwide. I've owned a lot of Sony products in the past. I won't be buying Sony anymore.
